Meet The Team: Matt Maurer (he/him)
This week’s ‘Meet The Team’ series is spotlighting our Senior Manager, Community Engagement, favorite plant dad, margarita lover, and community enthusiast, Matt Maurer.

What’s your coffee order?
I don’t drink coffee. I prefer juice: apple, orange, or grapefruit is my usual go-to.
What’s your pump up song?
Edge of Seventeen by Stevie Nicks.
Where were you before Alfred?
I worked in luxury fashion retail for over 20 years and with brands like Donna Karan, Helmut Lang, and Frye. I came to Alfred after being recruited by a coworker from Frye in January 2018. I have grown into many different roles while here at Alfred, but originally started as an Area Manager in our NYC market, where I was one of three managers that oversaw a subset of our properties, and all Alfred Home Managers in NY. From there, I was promoted to Engagement Manager for the North East and after that, I became a Territory Leader for the North East. which later transitioned into the role as Marketing Manager. Today, I’m the Senior Manager of Community Engagement.
Now that you’re here, what’s one thing you’re excited to make happen?
I’m excited to continue to grow the overall community experience across the entire country, and world for Alfred. I really love bringing people together to our amazing events and experiences that I truly believe fosters our trademark sense of community at the buildings that we work with, and the residents we serve.

What does community mean to you?
Community means bringing people together and helping others. It means shining a light on businesses that need help getting the word out, offering help and support to others who need it, and just having and creating fun. In all honesty, community to me really means family. Bringing everyone together and creating a space that feels like home.
So then what makes you feel most at home at Alfred?
The people that I work with. It really is a true family. Alfred is the one place I’ve worked that is never competitive amongst its employees, where everyone works together cross functionally to accomplish the same goals, and that’s fun in itself. The fact that you don’t have to come to work and then think that the person sitting next to you is going to take your job. It’s such a refreshing, nice place to be, I love it.
What’s something you learned during the pandemic or wished you learned?
I learned that my husband and I are total plant dads. We have about 100 plus plants now in the house, all beautiful and happy. One thing I wish I learned during the pandemic, was to speak a second language. Maybe I should have learned Spanish, so that I can speak to my husband in Spanish, that would have been cool.
Something I did learn, which actually is the best thing, is resilience. In the height of the pandemic, resilience really allowed people to become stronger. I personally felt the time to become a stronger, better person, and realize that in the face of all of that was going on in the world, humans really can thrive and become better, stronger versions of ourselves.
