Cities We’re In | Atlanta
Atlanta, Georgia — the final stop on the Western and Atlantic railroad.
This vibrant city is exploding with American history, but there are so many other attractions worth exploring.
This city of the south has been a centerpiece for American history since the early 1800’s. But Atlanta, Georgia is so much more than a collection of historical moments, museums and landmarks — it’s covered in art, erupting with music, and flooded by small businesses and local gems. Wander around a variety of local farmers’ markets, endless eateries and be sure to check out the aquarium — it’s one of the biggest in the U.S.!
Calling all history buffs
Founded in 1837, Atlanta is brimming with historical moments from both World Wars and the Civil War, not to mention the starting point for the Civil Rights Movement. Here, you can explore the life and legacy of America’s greatest civil rights leaders, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Coretta Scott King, and John Lewis. There are tons of historical homes and gorgeous estates to explore on your journeys through Atlanta.
Take a stroll
Atlanta is nicknamed the City in the Forest because beyond the bustling borders of the city is, you guessed it, a forest! There are tons of parks and gardens where you can take in the serenity of nature despite being in the big city. Swing by The Atlanta Botanical Garden in springtime for an explosion of towering trees and colorful flowers. Piedmont Park isn’t just a monument from the Civil War, it’s also a place to get some fresh air, with tons of trails, fields, and even a pool for those hot summer days in the south.
The underdog of eateries
While Atlanta is home to 6 million residents and the second largest airport in the world, its culinary buzz is not quite as loud as other famous foodie destinations like Charleston and Nashville. However, locals know the truth behind the diverse dining scene tucked within the city. With warm weather nine months of the year, patios stretch into the streets, offering cuisines, breweries and quick bites from all over the world.
